Sharada says: "Painting a portrait for an NHS hero has been quite a cathartic experience for me. While a lot of us were stuck indoors , worried and unaware of how to deal with this new monster of a disease, our doctors and medical staff were out their risking their own lives and saving ours. With this painting I hoped to capture a fleeting moment in a doctor’s life that perhaps made a serious impact on many others. This is my way of making sure we all appreciate and remember that moment."

Sitter quote: "This is my third year as a doctor - I work in a different hospital speciality every 4 months as part of my General Practice training. When the pandemic arrived, most junior doctors were redeployed to acute medicine, intensive care or, like me, to A&E.

We hurried to learn new jobs, new procedures and a new disease: How can you safely resuscitate a person with Covid? How can you create Covid and non-Covid hospitals in the same building? Why does this person's oxygen level plunge whenever they walk a few yards?

I worked with a good team with good equipment. I remember a colleague taking time to notice that I'd got a face mask with the valve fitted upside down: rushed onto the frontline with obvious faults but passed quality control and did the job.

And so did the face mask ha ha."
