This coin was recovered from a mid-19th century Euro-Canadian site in Vaughan, in 2004, by Archaeological Services Inc.. One side bears the date 1763 and, a monogram of Ekaterina Alekseevna, known as Katherine the Great, Empress of Russia from 1762 to 1796. On the other side is a large two-headed eagle with the Russian inscription “Five Kopeek”. It was found alongside other coins from Belgium, Upper Canada and the United States, suggesting one of the housing occupants may have travelled widely.
