This is a South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) membership badge from 1909-10. The face of the badge has the letters SACA interlaced in ornamental characters surrounded by a blue border. The membership number 581 is on the reverse of the badge.
The SACA was formed in 1871, thirty five years after the establishment of the colony of South Australia. Its early formation reflects the deep connection to British culture in the colony’s sporting heritage.
The SACA is the peak body for the sport of cricket in South Australia, and from its inception built the Adelaide Oval as the home of cricket in Adelaide and South Australia. Membership badges were issued each year of a different design and dated for the cricket season year. This badge is one of a number of badges of the SACA held by the History Trust of South Australia.
