Kiril Petrov graduated in painting in 1926 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, under Prof. Nikola Marinov. He created predominantly figural compositions influenced by Cubism. He chose themes from the life and labour of peasants. In his works, he revealed his views on the essence of the Bulgarian peasant, man of the soil, his patriarchal life and his love of the land and labour. His figures were built with primal power and expressive gestures.
