Saint John the Baptist is the prophet who announced the coming of Jesus. He baptized him on the banks of the Jordan. Herod married Herodias, his brother's wife. Saint John the Baptist denounced this unnatural marriage. They had a daughter: Salome. Herodias was offended and wanted revenge. Herod had John the Baptist arrested and thrown into prison. But he feared the reaction of the people, because John was seen as a prophet. He waited for the opportune moment to take his revenge.
During a festival, Salome charmed her stepfather with a dance, and he granted her wishes. On her mother's advice, she then demanded the head of John the Baptist, which Herod had brought to her on a platter.
