Until the triumph of porcelain, dinnerware sets were made of silver or gold. This salt bowl with two depressions and inward curling feet (broken) was made after a silver salt bowl. The sides of the bowl are decorated by four green embossed caterpillar ornaments; small tulip and cornflower blossoms have been painted on the bottoms of the depressions.
Faience, on-glaze painting, height 4 cm, length 14 cm. Unsigned.
Produced by Carl Christian Fick's faience factory (Revalische Vagance-Porcelain Fabrick) that operated in Tallinn from 1772 to 1782.
