Various objects bearing Samaritan inscriptions, written in a script similar to ancient Hebrew, have survived. Among these are large stones inscribed with the Ten Commandments. These were apparently mezuzot, inscriptions placed at the entrances to houses in keeping with religious law. However, they reflect a tradition different from the Jewish one, in which mezuzot are parchment scrolls affixed to doorposts that bear two other passages from Deuteronomy.
