Vincent Yu pursed his photographic studies at the Hong Kong Polytechnic and graduated with a Diploma in Photography in 1989. He worked as a photojournalist at the Hong Kong Standard between 1985 and 1989, before joining Associated Press where he has remained to date. Yu was chairman of the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association in 2004 and 2005. His works have been recognized by many honours, including the National Headliner Awards and Press Photography Competition Awards from the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association. Yu is interested in recording the vanishing scenes. With scrappy images, he hopes to assemble remnant values of a city. Since 2003, he travelled across Hong Kong to shoot the shores and the process is rather like Alice in Wonderland. Every trip takes him to a different place, such as totally wild rock beaches and coastal districts lined with screens of tower blocks.
