The mosque is believed to have been founded by a Muslim cloth merchant by the name of 'Damsah' from British Raj present day India. According to oral history, the interior craftsmanship of the mosque was influenced by work done by the local Malays and those from the region of Brunei, Philippines and Indonesia. One unique feature still on display is an old German clock, which is more than 50 years old.
