Unlike Aritaware, precious white clay used for making white Satsuma ware can only be found in certain places of Kagoshima. As a result, white Satsuma wares were treasured by the feudal clan and used as official items. In time the potters would achieve the technique to create tiny cracks covering the warm-ivory-coloured surface.
