Bach's centre of life and work was the Thomaskirchhof in Leipzig. The Thomas School, which adjoined the church on the left, housed not only the classrooms and rehearsal rooms of the Thomas Choir, but also the cantor's apartment. Here Bach lived with his family, here he received musicians who came to him from everywhere - and here he died on 28 July 1750.
