This banner is part of the museum's Community Banners project, 'Memories and Dreams'. It is symbolic of Scottish immigrants' experiences in South Australia.
On this banner maps of Scotland and South Australia are separated by a piper, with the path of the journey taken by many Scots highlighted. The ship further emphasises this journey. Memories of life in Scotland are depicted by the highland dancer, crofter’s cottage and various scenes of work. The images are taken from a poem by Scottish poet, Jimmy Wright, written in honour of South Australia’s sesquicentenary. The emblem of the Scottish Association of South Australia symbolises the way Scots have maintained their culture in a new environment.
