Sculpture of a Priest King

National Museums Liverpool

National Museums Liverpool
United Kingdom

Head of a statue identified as a Priest King. The man wears an Egyptian style double crown that has a scale pattern in the upper part of it. The lower part closer to the forehead has a winged Uraeus. The man has a beard that resembles Assyrian representations of kings. Both the hair at the forehead and the beard are made of our snail shaped locks. Uraeus snake forms are an emblema of royal crown of Egypt since the Middle Kindgom and they appear in the statues from Golgoi. The winged Uraeus is unique and does not appear on Egyptian crowns, it appears more on pectorals, royal monuments or religious representations.
