Sea eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla)

Natural History Museum Vienna

Natural History Museum Vienna
Vienna, Austria

With a wingspan of up to 2.4 m, the sea eagle is one of the most impressive birds of prey in Europe. A series of protection measures have led to an increase in its numbers in recent years. Since 2001 sea eagles have once again been breeding in Austria. However, poisonous bait, led pellets embedded in its prey, illegal hunting, and collisions with wind turbines are permanent threats. Therefore, sea eagles are still considered endangered in Austria.
