This type of transport was an urban vehicle used during the Modern Era, mainly by the clergy and ladies of the aristocracy, and its use across the whole of Europe until the end of the 19th century. This is an outstanding example of rococo art. The construction process required various craftsmen: carriage builders, woodcarvers, gilders and painters. Its high level of material and artistic quality suggests that it belonged to a palace environment, since the pragmatic sumptuary rules issued against the excessive luxury this type of vehicle were not observed in the sedan chairs used in the courtly milieu, which were mainly used for carrying the trousseaux of aristocratic ladies. Although there are no signatures on the scenes decorating the panels or door, it is thought that they are the work of Luis Paret y Alcázar, the best representative of Spanish rococo painting. All together, they form an iconographic motif that exalts conjugal Love and Friendship, using mythological fables featuring Poseidon, Amphitrite, Hermes, Eros, Jason, Pygmalion, Venus and Juno.
