Former Auschwitz I camp. Entrance gate with a sign that reads: ‘State Museum in Oświęcim’. Although the Museum was officially opened on 14 June 1947, it had actually been functioning since the spring of the previous year. Its employees protected the former camp premises, prepared exhibitions and provided guided tours for visitors. Seen in the photograph is one of many groups of visitors who visited the former camp in 1946. Photograph by Antonin Ćenek, 1946. Source: APMA-B
