These lead cast type pieces display the elegant hieroglyphs designed by Norman and Nina de Garis Davies for use in the font of Alan H. Gardiner's Egyptian Grammar. The hieroglyphs were based on New Kingdom designs with which Norman and Nina had extensive experience from their work in tombs of the Theban necropolis. Such type would be arranged by a compositor on a compositor's stick in preparation for printing.
