It is a self-portrait of the artist himself, made of bronze. It shows a head and part of the neck of an older man, placed on a rectangular base. Jan Szczepkowski made the bronze casting when he was 74, as an old, experienced man and artist. Despite his mature age, he remained active by creating more artworks, taking part in various competitions or judging the contests. In 1953, he designed the reliefs intended for decorating the building of Sejm and National Council. Ultimately only one composition was chosen, the one called “Różyczki” (Eng. Roses).
The exhibit belongs to the collection of the Maria and Jan Szczepkowski Foundation.
