For Giovanni Chiaramonte - photographer, author, critic, editor, educator - the exploration of the landscape and the relationship between nature and architecture becomes an investigation of human identity.
For "atlante italiano 003", commissioned by the MAXXI to thirty photographers invited to record the changes, processes of transformation and new aesthetic of the Italian landscape, Chiaramonte investigated an area of great personal interest, between Calabria and Sicily. His images reveal the “affective” sense of observation, the relationship between reality and the condition of the soul. An interiorised and concentrated vision of the landscape appears to be activated by an intense spirituality characteristic of Chiaramonte’s work.
