Jesper Just is a contemporary artist who contunially challenges the viewer's sense of place and architecture through innovative use of multi-media. As Part of Performa 15, he created a special edition of his multi-channel work "Servitudes" for the electronic billboards. This sequence underscores the dichotomy between femininity and autonomy in our capitalist society. Actress Dree Hemingway is featured sitting alone in an office of the new Freedom Tower, eating corn, while her hands are secured by Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) devices. Noting the tension expressed in her actions, these items are a symbolic nod to a manipulative political system and explore society's obsession with youth and beauty.
