Postcard commemorating Captain Seán Connolly of the Irish Citizen Army, who led the occupation of City Hall in Dublin on Easter Monday, 24 April 1916. He was shot and killed by a sniper lodged on the Bedford Tower in Dublin Castle that same afternoon.
Connolly was a republican and trade unionist, and had been very active in the ITGWU during the 1913 Dublin Lockout. He was also an actor and had a fine singing voice. Notes handwritten on the back of this postcard say that Connolly "Sang at concert, Foresters' Hall, 41 Parnell sq., Dublin, Sunday 16th April, also at Alderman Cole's Céilidhe, 25th March".
