Sharkuza, by Mu Pan (Taichung City, Taiwan, 1976) shows a fierce battle between sharks and sharkuzas against women. The sharkuzas are recurring characters in the artist’s iconography and consist of a hybridisation between sharks and yakuza. The sea is a recurring element of Mu Pan's work, the scene of numerous battles. The Asian-American artist Mu Pan has made mixing cultures his personal brand. His works present multiple narrative layers, personal reflections on human behaviour where humour and violence often come together.
