Antwerp, Belgium

This painting of a pilgrimage shows the temple complex on Mount Satrunjaya. The central temple is dedicated to Adinatha, the first Jina. A winding path full of pilgrims rises to the top of the mountain. The coloured plates illustrate the roughness of the terrain, which is populated by monks and animals.
A deceased monk is visible in the white sphere at the top. He died a ritual death by fasting and reached the abode of liberated souls, which looks like a crescent moon or a white, golden, overturned umbrella.
