An unexpectedly sharp range of coastal colors and an unusual scale make this a memorable and hauntingly beautiful work. David Burliuk left his native Russia in 1920 and spent time in Japan and New York City before buying his home on Squiretown Road in Hampton Bays, where he built his studio and gallery. He had a profound impact on other East End artists, reaching many not only through his unique paintings but also through his publication Color & Rhyme.
