This ship model is one of the oldest Western European ship models. According to tradition, the ship model comes from a chapel in the Catalan town of Mataró (near Barcelona). The model is considered to be a church model (ex-voto / votive model, ie a model that has been donated to a church as an object of thanks). The model may have been carried in processions. The model carries one mast. At one point it had three masts, one on the front castle and one on the back castle. However, there is serious doubt that the ship ever had three masts. Dimensions (lxwxh): 123 x 55 x 125 cm.
