In this painting of naturalist rural representation, on a first plane we see a boy with a straw hat, in the middle of a wheat field, shooing the birds away by beating a stick against an old watering can hanging around his neck. On a second plane we see a countryside house and further on the background a valley with crop fields. This work is inspired by the bucolic of the rural environment from his childhood, because while on vacation he worked at the estate Casa das Figueiras. This painter stands out in naturalist and historical painting, focusing also on portrait and religious themes; but we can without any doubts drink the genesis of a natural ruralism from an academy painter with innate skills and a technique that “threshes Memories”.
