The T52 e was a World War II German cipher machine and teleprinter.
Due to its size and weight, however, it was only ever used as a stationary device.
Unlike the Enigma, messages were encrypted and deciphered automatically.
On 20 July 1944, the resistance group led by Claus von Stauffenberg used the device to issue encrypted commands for Operation Valkyrie, the plot to assassinate Hitler. Photo: Jan Braun, HNF
