Typed on sheet attached to back of image: "Compiegne, France ...This Historic photo was made in the Forest of Compiegne on November 11, 1918, when allied leaders dictated the terms of the Armistice that halted hostilities in the World War. Germany has since alluded to the Armistice as her "Shame" and "Humiliation." The men in center here outside the railroad car in which the armistice was signed are General Maxime Weygand of France, Admiral Wemyss of Great Britain and Marshal Foch, Generalissimo of the Allied Armies. Today Reichsfuehrer Hitler sat in Foch's chair in the same railroad car and dictated Germany's terms for peace to a French delegation."
