Tromsø, Norway

The Crusader king, Sigurd, draped in red, rides on a white horse into Miklagard (now Istanbul), leading his army. Minarets and orange groves in the background. Another version of this gobelin is a part of the national tapestry in the Royal collection of Norway.
The story of King Sigurd's arrival to Miklagaard is told by Snorre in his Saga of the Norwegian Kings.

"Mikla" is a form of the Norwegian great, which means "big". Miklagaard then means "the big city"
