This was engraved from brass, bronze and pewter trays. Imported by dhows from Persia, India and Arabia. They were central treasures to the Swahili kitchen. Used to serve meals to Swahili men who eat together sitting cross-legged on floor mats. The trays are ofetn displayed in women's rooms.
