Sir Charles Darling (1809–1870) was Governor of Victoria from September 1863 to 1867. Before travelling to Australia, he served in Jamaica, St Lucia, the Cape Colony and Newfoundland. Darling's governership of Victoria was troubled, and he died a broken man in Cheltenham, England, at the age of 60.

The artist John Wesley Burtt (1839–1917) exhibited a portrait of Sir Charles Darling at the first exhibition of the Victorian Academy of arts in 1870. It is not known whether this is that work.
