Ceremonial sideblown trumpets are normally carved of wood by Swahili craftsmen as part of the regalia of Swahili towns. During the 17th and 18th Centuries, two of the finest pieces of precolonial craftmasnship were produced which survived to this day, the brass siwa from Lamu. It is 2 meters in length and in the care of the Lamu Museum.
