Sketch of the curtain of the Teatro Regio (The Triumph of Wisdom)

Gian Battista Borghesi1828

Fondazione Museo Glauco Lombardi

Fondazione Museo Glauco Lombardi
Parma, Italy

The canvas is the sketch for the curtain that closes the proscenium of the Teatro Regio, which Gian Battista Borghesi created in 1828 at the request of Maria Luigia. A second, smaller version of the sketch is kept at the Theater Museum of La Scala in Milan. Lombardi's correspondence with the Brasi brothers (Biblioteca Comunale di Mirandola, Gavioliana collection, Lombardi archive, L4 B11) lists this piece among the purchases made between 1915 and 1917 at their shop in Piazza Duomo, then named "Brasi & Zucchi"; This explains the note that is kept at the Museum (gray folder), in which it is said that the artwork was purchased in 1916 by the antiquarian Zucchi.
