This image was used in a New South Wales Department of Tourist Activities brochure. The Australian Government wanted to compare the Australia snowfields to the Alps in Western Europe.
This image comes from a series of photographs captured by Australian photographer Max Dupain while on assignment for the Department of Information in the 1940s. These photos were used by the Australian Government to promote Australia’s way of life – its fine weather, outdoor activities, natural resources, modern cities, and quality education and healthcare.
