Medium: paint, dye, and lacquer on wood.
Description: Ian Wegener has been making and exhibiting work since 2007. He is currently known for his vibrant woodworking, with folk art vibes that are reflections of iconography and symbols in contemporary culture. There is a certain stress or attention towards including forgotten materials, creating a visual landscape that cherishes the material, and illuminates it. This creates a very unique structure, where details exist in places that are now most often outsourced as unimportant tasks. The process of making materials to build the sculptures has breathed life into the material itself, requiring the utmost attention to its production. The forgotten pieces become a beautiful whole, and the adoration is restored. The work reflects or speaks to the importance of forgotten or discarded aspects of our culture. The attempt is to create a visual identity with our personal surroundings, letting forgotten materials become sacred and beautiful.
