This metal tag would have been placed on a collar, chain, or necklace around the neck of a slave up for sale at the M. Price Slave Auction in New Orleans, 1838. The tag is number 114, and the rear of the tag has the slogan "All Slaves Guaranteed in Good Health." Once a slave was sold, the tag would revert back to the auction house to be used again.
