The painting shows a sleighride in the Innere Burghof, part of the Imperial Palace, on February 7, 1765. The sleigh of the head equerry, Heinrich
Joseph Prince Auersperg (right at the front on the left) leads the procession.
It is followed by the sleigh carrying the Emperor Franz I Stephan and his
daughter-in-law, Maria Josepha. Her husband, Joseph II, is seated in the
following sleigh next to his sister, Maria Anna. Their sleigh is followed by
another 27 racing sleighs of members of the nobility.
