Experience a Smoking Ceremony performed by Matthew Doyle and Tim Bishop on Bidjigal Country. Smoking ceremonies always have and always will be important to many Aboriginal cultures. A ceremony will always begin with the creating of the fire and generally speaking will involve the smoking of native leaves from the Country the ceremony is held on. The purpose of these ceremonies is to cleanse the areas and rid the land and people of bad spirits. There are many other types of ceremonies for First Nations communities, including water ceremonies, fire, sweeping and sweat ceremonies and all are about healing and cleansing. These often form part of a Welcome to Country.
