This work is from Naiza Khan’s series ‘Iron Clouds’ which plays with the notion of the female form and armour. Khan’s works deal with both the strength and fragility of a woman’s consciousness as well as its form. She plays with the notions of form and space as these works are sculptural. Spine was inspired by a vintage costume which had belonged to her friend’s grandmother. She used the inherent beauty of the ‘choli’(bodice/blouse) to create armour encased in scarlet suede.
