Spiros Mikhail was an iconographer whose oeuvre has been well researched but, at this stage, there are no data on his origins and biography. We know that, in the period between 1819 and 1835, he worked actively in Asenovgrad and Plovdiv. His icons can be found in several churches in the Central and Eastern Rhodopes and in the Thracian region. His specific style was undoubtedly influenced by the earlier iconographic heritage of the Samokov and Tryavna icon painters in the regions of Plovdiv and Asenovgrad.
