St Mark the Evangelist. Emmanuel Tzanes. 1657. The painter Emmanuel Tzanes Bounialis (ca. 1610-1690), a priest and an intellectual, was the descendant of a noble family from Rethymnon who moved to Corfu after the Turkish conquest of Crete.
