The geometric patterns in the panels of the sides of the stacked basket are carved with utmost precision. The appeal of the patterns lies in their remarkable regularity – which was no easy feat. The oval decorations were copied from prints after the work of Angelika Kauffmann, one of the most popular painters of the time.
