Standing Amida with large halo

Unknown17th century AD

Museo d'Arte Orientale

Museo d'Arte Orientale
Torino, Italy

The work is composed of six sections: statue (85 x 27 x 20 cm); halo (d. 60 cm / thickness 8 cm); shaft supporting the halo (h 98 cm); lotus pedestal (h 35 cm / d. 45 cm); lacquered wood shelf (d. 57 cm / thickness 1.2 cm); gilded wood base (d. 64 cm / thickness 9 cm). From a measurement of the elements it should be noted that the actual dimensions of the pedestal are 33 x 48 x 41, as the back is not curved but cut straight.
The last two sections (not shown in the picture) appear not to belong to the original work, because the size and the joints are incompatible with the pedestal and the finishing of the materials does not match: the gilding on the base is visibly different from that on the rest of the statue and the shelf appears to have been made more recently. When set up on these two elements, the statue is raised by 10 cm.
