This photograph was taken during the restoration of the Wells Fargo Building in Columbia, California. The man on the far left is State Architect Alfred W. Eichler. Eichler began working for the California Department of Public Works in 1925, in the Division of Architecture. He was promoted to supervising architect by 1949. By the time he retired in 1963, Eichler had worked on numerous state buildings and structures, including Sacramento's Tower Bridge, and the California School for the Deaf in Berkeley, California. Alfred W. Eichler died on November 27, 1977, at the age of 82.
