This statement, written on red silk, was to praise Regent Yi Haeung who took the lead in the reconstruction of Gyeongbokgung Palace, the Palace of Resplendent Happiness, upon the king’s order in 1867. Regent Yi Haeung’s accomplishments were recorded on a separate red silk, differentiating it from those of other construction managers, to show his class status. This record was found in a section of the roof of the upper floor during the previous repair of Geunjeongjeon Hall, the Hall of Diligent Rule, in 2001. Detailed Records of Geunjeongjeon Hall Reconstruction, a list of persons in charge of the reconstruction in 1867, a record related to Regent Yi Haeung, two talismans with the Chinese character for water (水), a talisman with a dragon painted on it, and five hexagonal silver talismans were also discovered along with this document.
