Marble statue of the god Apollo depicted with a wreath of laurel, a tripod and an omphalos. From the fourth century BC onwards antique sculpture used Apollo, son of Leto and the main god Zeus, as the prototype of beauty of balanced masculine beauty. He was pre-eminently the god of order: of sounds and tones, so that he is the patron of music and poetry, but also of the law, so that, when the law had been violated, he punished mercilessly He is also the god of the oracles, places where people apply to the gods to ask for advice and assistance.
