Meryra was the financial officer of the 18th dynasty pharaoh (c. 1400–1352 BC). The stele in front of the statue contains a petition for favour to the sun god Ra and lists all the titles and responsibilities of the official in the court. The statue was intended to be placed in a tomb and was designed according to the canons developed by the priests, following the principles of strict symmetry and generalization of the image.
