The statue depicts Saint Agnes, as per the inscription at the base of the neckline of the robe in which "S[ancta] Agnes" can be read. She has been protector of the Visconti family since 21 January 1277, the day in which they defeated the rival Torriani family and thus dedicated to Saint Agnes, and she is depicted with a lamb in her arms and dressed in the fashionable style of a noblewoman of the time.
