This is a Roman statue of the half-god Hercules. It was made after a Greek original, but that original is lost now. The statue shows Hercules taking a break after he has just stolen the golden apples of the Hesperides. They were nymphs, Greek half-goddesses meant to guard the apples. Hercules is leaning on his club. Over the club hangs Hercules' lionskin with the head still attached.
