Tan Ping, born in Chengde of Hebei Province in 1960, now lives and works in Beijing. He is an artist who is particularly perceptive towards humanity and the human living conditions. In terms of artist language, he has a tireless pursuit of innovation and experimentation. His works, for many years, have taken the form of abstraction and have been evolved continuously. Focusing on expressing his own experience and reception, Tan tries to avoid the concepts of "reconstruction" and "representation". As a result, variations and shifting of styles in his work are inevitable, while the values and interests reflected in his work also varies. Abstraction implies the recount ofthe basic characteristics of objects or circumstances. The abstract factor in art allows him to freely express on the canvas, the realistic side of nature or the feelings that nature provokes in him. This factor exists both in realistic and abstract painting. This is the concept behind his work Status 2.
